Follow the Leader
Disciple Characteristic #4:
Allegiance to Christ's leadership
(Being willing to follow Him no matter what)
"If anyone would come after me, he must take up his cross daily and follow Me." ~Luke 9:23
The apostles dropped everything to follow Jesus.
THREE GUYS NOT FIT TO FOLLOW (Luke 9: 57-62):
1. Mr. Too Hasty (verses 57- 58)-- too dependent on the comforts of his life.
2. Mr. Too Hesitant (verses 59-60)-- bound too tightly by the cares of this world.
3. Mr. Too Homesick (verses 61-62)-- too concerned with companions to follow Jesus.
Jesus knew the hearts of these three guys.
They were too preoccupied with
1. Comforts
2. Cares
3. Companions
to be true disciples.
Hebrews 12: 1-2: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverence the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith."
Focus on faith: Remember to throw off what hinders you, run with perseverence, and fix your eyes on Jesus.
William Borden (would-be missionary who died on his way to his first mission field) wrote in his Bible:
No Reserves- don't hold back
No Retreat- don't go back
No Regret- don't take it back
