Discipleship: Thought du Jour 4

Go To The Gym!

Disciple Characteristic #2:
Regular Study and Devotion to God's Word (John 8:31-32)

* "You can choose your actions, or you can choose your consequences, but you can't choose both." *

For example:
Choose your consequence: good grades
Actions you have to give up are:
Sleeping in class
Partying
Not doing your homework
etc...

WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH BEING A DISCIPLE?

John 8: 31-32 said,
"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

What is the action? Hold to Jesus' teachings
What is the consequence? You are a disciple and will know the truth and be freed by it.

The word "hold" means to "sink your roots down into the soil."

Look at Hebrews 5: 11-14.

What is their, and therefore our, problem?

We/They are dull of hearing and slow to learn, and we are spiritual infants.

What's the solution to their/ our problem?
(Hebrews 5: 14)

1. EAT MORE MEAT!
Chew on the solid food of God's Word.
2. GO TO THE GYM!
Get some spiritual exercise. Train yourself in God's Word.
