Discipleship: Thought du Jour 7

Who Owns Your Stuff?

Disciple Characteristic #5:
Recognition of True Ownership of Your Possessions
Text: Luke 14: 27-33

COUNTING THE COST

Illustration #1: Luke 14:27-30- Count the cost before the building begins!

Illustration #2: Luke 14: 31-33- Count the cost before the battle begins!

Don't make a commitment before counting the cost!

WHAT'S THE PRICE TAG?

How much will it cost you to be a disciple?

EVERYTHING!!!

Therefore, you have to recognize who truly owns your stuff.

RECOGNIZING TRUE VALUE

-What is the definition of true ownership? It means that you get to keep it forever.

If that is true, then you own nothing but your salvation and faith.

-How much of your stuff do you get to keep?
All of your stuff is on loan from God. A true disciple will receive an inheritance from God- an eternal reward.

"He is no fool, who gives up what he cannot keep in order to gain what he cannot lose." ~Jim Elliot

You cannot keep your stuff.
You cannot lose your eternal reward for following Christ.
